ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Animal Media Group approached me to both design and create illustrations for the next book to their collection, "Shoebox Funeral Stories from Wolf Creek".
Shoebox Funeral is the story of Elisabeth Voltz growing up with ten siblings on a farm in rural Grove City, PA, when she came in contact with many animals, as one would expect when you live on a farm. But the Voltz family farm would usually have a few additions each week—the townspeople would often drop off their unwanted, or worse, dying animals for the Voltz family to take care of.
With each chapter came a collection of heartfelt short stories about the ducks, cats, dogs, and birds that Elisabeth would befriend, all the while knowing that they wouldn’t be around for very long. It has been such a rewarding experience to see the project take shape both conceptually and visually and finally see it in one piece.
